Avery Ardoin, a senior in AP art student at Seabury Hall, uses his artwork to express his feelings and evoke human emotion.
This theme soon earned him the Silver Key award for his piece, “Plague of the Mind,” in the Scholastic art competition, Hawaii state’s agency that provides grants and services within the artistic field for grade school students over 13 years of age. This piece was also featured at Seabury Hall’s AP art show inside Cooper House on Jan. 22.
“Simple things throughout my daily life inspire me to create my art,” said Ardoin about the meanings and inspirations behind his works, many of which were featured in the art show. “It can be a lyric from a song, an interaction with a person, or anything else. These small things from my life, inspire me to look deeper into my life and what’s around me.”
The whole AP art class has been presenting their work on display for students, families, and visitors to attend and view throughout the day.
“My inspiration behind my work is human connection and human emotions, we all share very similar emotions in very different individual ways,” he said.
Ardoin also expresses his feelings for his favorite piece, “Dancing with Death” which was featured in the art show.
“It is different than my other pieces with their bright colors,” he said. “A piece that looks upon how death is always creeping up on us both metaphorically.”
Ardoin has been attending Seabury since freshman year, but has been doing art since youth.
“I have been making art since I was little, I only recently a year or two ago, started seriously making art though,” he said.
“For wanting to improve at art, my word of advice is to keep practicing always, and always find inspiration and joy that helps drive your art,” Ardoin said when asked for any words of advice he has for those looking to improve at art. “Good art is art that has passion, love, and inspiration behind it.”
