Kalan Birnie is a sophomore at Seabury Hall. He has been attending the school since his freshman year, and he is the sophomore class president. Prior to Seabury Hall, Birnie attended Kamehameha Schools Maui from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Birnie is involved in many extracurricular activities at Seabury Hall. In the athletics department, he is the manager of the girls volleyball teams, and he plays boys basketball and volleyball. He was a part of Seabury Hall’s varsity boys volleyball team, which placed second in the 2014 Hawaii State Volleyball Championship. Outside of the gym, Birnie has been cast in multiple Seabury Hall plays, such as “Hamlet” and “The Diviners.” He played a large part in Seabury Hall’s Hiki Nō story on the University of Hawaii shark tagging research, which aired on PBS Hawaii. In the spring of 2014, Birnie played a role in the
[email protected] event, serving as the head of the stage crew and technology team. Birnie is an avid sports fan, throwing his allegiance to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL, the Oakland Athletics in the MLB, and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA.
