Joy Gentil, Staff Writer

Joy Gentil is currently a senior at Seabury Hall. She has been attending this school since the sixth grade, after completing elementary school at the Montessori School of Maui in Makawao. Although she was born on Maui, her nationality is Brazilian, and she takes pride in celebrating her culture. Gentil has many interests in and outside of school. At school, Gentil enjoys being a co-leader of Seabury Hall’s Kids Helping Kids club at the local homeless shelter in Wailuku. Gentil's favorite subjects in school have always been English and Spanish, and her interest in both topics have only increased through the years. Outside of school, she enjoys a variety of hobbies and activities. One of her favorite commitments for the past two years have been becoming a part of the Best Buddies organization and getting to know her best buddy, Bert. Whenever she has time, Gentil loves spending time outside whether it is at the beach with friends, or going on runs at the end of the day. Another ongoing passion she has been pursuing ever since the age of eight is singing, which has led her to start learning how to play guitar as well. Other passions of hers include photography and capturing all of the best moments in her life, especially while traveling which is one of her all-time favorite things to do. Gentil's favorite destinations so far have been Spain, England, and, of course, Brazil. Her aspirations include learning French and Italian, and to get a degree in business, specifically marketing.
