The Seabury Tides

Evan Elsasser

Evan Elsasser, Staff Writer

Evan Elsasser is a freshman at Seabury Hall, which she has been attending since her sixth grade year. She was born in Portland, Oregon and moved with her parents and two older brothers to Maui at the age of 11. Since she was a baby, Elsasser visited Maui with relatives, but it was not until 2011 that her family decided to move here full time. The warm tropical weather, wind, and waves lured her and her family to the islands in chase of a new place to kitesurf and surf. When Elsasser first moved to the island, she quickly decided that she hated it and wanted to return to Portland, but now five years later she is in love with Maui and could not imagine living anywhere else. Elsasser spends her weekends and weekdays at the beach, surfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddling, or playing soccer upcountry. Elsasser’s family consists of avid kitesurfers who constantly chase the wind and love to spend time together out on the water. She has two older brothers who currently live on the mainland and are seniors in college in Oregon and California. In recent months Elsasser has found herself loving playing soccer with Seabury Hall’s girls team. The loud, rambunctious, and energetic group of girls has become a sort of second family that helps her get away from the stress and insanity of Seabury Hall. This year Elsasser is the freshman class treasurer, and she has taken part in student council every year she has been at Seabury, helping make sure that school is fun for her and her roughly 500 other peers.
