Review: A horror film with heart

On Friday, Sept. 13, director James Wan released the exciting and heartfelt horror movie “Insidious: Chapter 2.” The story takes place in the present day and follows the life of a family followed by a supernatural entity. “Insidious: Chapter 2” is a sequel to “Insidious,” which is available on DVD and Netflix and should definitely be watched before seeing the second movie.

This sequel follows the life of the father (Patrick Wilson) of the family. He is forced to look into his past to protect his family. As a child, he was also haunted like his son was in the first movie. He ends up uncovering many secrets that were meant to stay covered, and has to deal with decisions made many years ago.

The evil spirit is unknown throughout most of the film, but is very restless and will not stop until it completes what it comes to do. The family tries to ignore the entity, but they have to face the facts and stand up to whatever has been haunting their family. Will the family make it out? What happens to the family? Watch the film to find out. It is a film worth watching and adds a little humor while scaring the pants off of any audience.

“Insidious: Chapter 2” shows much heart and reveals the importance of family during difficult situations. At the end of the movie, the director hinted there would be a third movie by leaving everyone wondering what Elisa (Lin Shaye) saw right before the movie screen blacked out. “Insidious: Chapter 2” is full of spontaneous scary scenes and many funny remarks.

If scary movies are not your type of movie, I would not recommend seeing this movie alone. Some parts of the movie are intense and the director did a great job of breaking tension with some goofy actors. This movie is a film full of many twists and turns and is a little confusing if you do not see the first “Insidious.” “Insidious: Chapter 2” keeps you on the edge of your seat and you never know what to expect.

Overall, if you are looking for an interesting, exciting movie, definitely check out this must-see horror film.
