It’s almost time to hit the theaters for summer’s biggest blockbusters

Summer vacation is quickly approaching, and there is plenty to be excited about. This includes the summer blockbuster season, a time where all the most exciting films come into theaters for the general public to enjoy. Be sure to look out for the following six films this summer.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” (May 27th)
Following the successes of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Deadpool,” The next-installment of the “X-Men” franchise will continue the story of Charles Xavier (James Mcavoy) as he continues to evolve into the great man he is destined to become. However, conflict ensues when the godly mutant Eh Sabah Nur/Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) awakes from his ancient slumber and plans on destroying the world. It is up to Charles Xavier and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) to assemble a new line of X-Men to defeat Apocalypse and his acolytes. Hopefully, this film will be an entertainment delight that continues to focus on themes of diversity and conflicting ideals that the “X-Men” franchise has been praised for in the past.

“Now You Seen Me 2” (June 10th)
“Now You See Me 2,” the sequel to the 2013 heist film “Now You See Me,” is an action-packed brain buster where a group of magicians who go by the name of the Four Horsemen try to pull off the greatest magic trick in the history of the world. A tech mastermind (Daniel Radcliffe) recruits the clever group to steal the key that contains access to every computer system in the world. The Four Horseman must work together to achieve the most unimaginable heist of this generation, which in itself should be enough to lure anyone into the theater to see this film. The audience gets the pleasure of watching the star from the “Harry Potter” movies, Daniel Radcliffe, play a major role throughout this film. The film will have an impressive use of optical illusions as the plot unfolds, making the movie unpredictable and unlike any film seen before.

“Finding Dory” (June 17th)
With Ellen Degeneres returning to voice Dory and Albert Brooks returning to voice Marlin, people all around the world are excited to watch the sequel of the “Finding Nemo” film. The movie is based off of Dory’s journey to find her family with Nemo and Marlin. This comical and heartwarming tale has fairly high standards to live up to after the original “Finding Nemo” movie became extremely popular for all ages. The return of these beloved characters should be an exciting trip to the theaters for the whole family because everyone will enjoy watching the sequel to a childhood movie that came out 13 years ago in 2003.

“Ghostbusters” (July 15th)
Thirty years ago, the film “Ghostbusters” took the world by surprise. The film was about a crew of guys who “captured ghosts” as a scheme to collect money, but little did they know they would encounter real ghosts. There is a revamped 2016 version of this fun film but with a twist: the cast for “the crew” consists of only women. The plot is almost identical to the original. When Abby Yates’ (Kristen Wiig) and Erin Gilbert’s (Melissa McCarthy) old book about ghost resurfaces, they become the laughing stock of the town. But when real ghosts start materializing, the two must rally a group together to vanquish these ghosts. With a team consisting Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon who are some of the funniest actresses alive, this is bound to be a hilarious film.

“Star Trek Beyond” (July 22nd)
The Star Trek franchise is looking for another success after the well-received “Star Trek Into Darkness”. Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) are going to the depths of space to lead their crew on another adventure. This spectacular voyage will explore new planets, creatures and enemies, as the USS Enterprise’s crew boldly go where no man has gone before. After selecting villains out of the original movies for the last two movies, “Star Trek Beyond” will now show its creativity and take on the responsibility of coming up with new aliens and a new villain (Idris Elba). Whether you are a longtime fan of Star Trek, or a newcomer to these movies, “Star Trek Beyond” is a must-see sci-fi experience.

“Suicide Squad” (August 5th)
In a year when superheroes can’t seem to get along on the big screen, it may be surprising that super villains are the ones working together as a team in “Suicide Squad.” The film follows a group of convicts as they are sent on a suicide mission, with the promise of an early release if they succeed. The catch is if that they fail, are compromised, or disobey orders in this mission, they will be killed with remote explosives implanted in their heads. While Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was a critically-panned disappointment, “Suicide Squad” will hopefully improve by having more fun. With a lineup of colorful villains such as Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and The Joker (Jared Leto), this will hopefully be the movie that will have us rooting for the bad guys.
