“Kung Fu Panda 3” is more than just an animated kids film. It is filled with action, drama, and heartwarming characters that help bring the film to life. The characters that appear in “Kung Fu Panda 1” and “Kung Fu Panda 2” are back together to fight off a new and dangerous villain, Kai, played by J. K. Simmons.

Po (Jack Black), now known as the Dragon Warrior, is put to the test when Kai, the evil villain, comes back from the spirit realm to conquer all of China. Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), Po’s kung fu teacher and life advisor, helps Po embrace the path that is given to him by Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim), a powerful kung fu master who is captured by Kai.

Master Shifu declares that Po is the new kung fu teacher. Po needs to learn to teach his peers the way he was taught by Master Shifu. After many failed attempts of trying to teach kung fu, a figure from Po’s past returns, claiming that he is called by the universe to help Po. This new character takes Po back to his village. During this journey, Po hopes to find everything he is looking for. With the help of family and friends, Po learns that he is capable of anything.

The plot of the movie is very fascinating. It will have you at the edge of your seat waiting to find out what is going to happen next. Will Po pass the test? Is he actually the chosen one?

All of the actors do a fantastic job bringing their animated characters to life. Each actor or actress gives their character personality and emotion. Once again, Jack Black, the actor playing Po, does a wonderful job carrying out his role. The enthusiasm and devotion Black puts into his character is phenomenal. Black seems to have a connection with Po because he has been able to perfect this role throughout all three films.

The directors, Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, does an amazing job putting together this movie. It shows that these two put a lot of time and effort into the movie because the animation is perfectly crafted, the music is great, and there is never a dull moment.

Personally, animated films are not my favorite, but I would have to say, “Kung Fu Panda 3” is definitely a movie you should spend $10 to see. The film is playing in 2D and 3D. Anyone who likes action, drama, and animation would find this film intriguing. This film is also perfect for any age. “Kung Fu Panda 3” is now playing at Regal Maui Mall Megaplex in Kahului.
